At Ayresome Primary School, we are passionate about nurturing confident, creative writers who can express themselves with clarity and purpose. Our bespoke Writing programme, inspired by Jane Considine’s approach, is designed to engage students in a rich and immersive writing journey. Through our carefully structured Writing cycle, we ensure every student develops the skills, creativity, and confidence to become a thoughtful and expressive writer.
Our Writing Cycle
Our Writing cycle provides a balanced approach to developing ideas, crafting language, and refining skills. Central to this process is our commitment to “holding the writer’s hand”— supporting each child as they build ideas, develop structure, and find their unique voice. We believe in creating an inspiring environment where students feel motivated and confident to express themselves.
1. Idea Building Through Immersive Experiences: To spark creativity, we offer immersive experiences that bring ideas to life. Whether through storytelling, drama, or interactive activities, students explore a world of ideas before putting pen to paper.
2. Guided Writing Support: Throughout the writing process, we guide students with practical strategies to help them develop structure, vocabulary, and clarity in their work. By breaking down the process and offering constructive feedback, we help students build their skills step-by-step
3. Peer Collaboration: Collaboration is a cornerstone of our Writing approach. Students work together to brainstorm, share feedback, and refine their ideas, fostering a community of young writers who support and inspire each other.
Poetry Days
To celebrate and cultivate creativity, we dedicate six special days each year to the art of poetry. These one-day events give students the opportunity to explore language playfully, experiment with rhythm and rhyme, and express themselves in new, imaginative ways.
